Chris Seidl is a Director at Certum Group, where he leads Certum’s IP finance strategy, including IP licensing, litigation funding, and acquisitions.

Chris graduated with a B.A. from St. John’s University (MN) and a J.D., cum laude, from Mitchell Hamline Law School.
EXPERIENCE AND RECOGNITION
Chris has nearly 25 years of experience monetizing IP rights for claim holders.
Before joining Certum, Chris was a Managing Director at Fortress Investment Group for three years, where he focused on IP finance and was responsible for originating, structuring and underwriting patent investment opportunities with law firms and patent holders around the world. While at Fortress, Chris was named to the 2022-2026 editions of IAM Strategy 300: The World’s Leading IP Strategists, and as an IAM Strategy Global Leader, identifying leading IP strategists who are shaping the future of intellectual property law and business strategy.
Prior to Fortress, Chris was in private practice for 21 years at Robins Kaplan LLC. He represented plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes IP and business disputes. He tried several patent cases to verdict, including a patent trial win that was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.
While at Robins Kaplan, Chris was nationally recognized for his “superior client service” and as a “trailblazer” in intellectual property law. In 2018, he was named an “Intellectual Property Trailblazer” by the National Law Journal. In 2015, Chris was named a “BTI Client Service All Star.” Chris was noted for being “very good at bringing a business understanding, as well as a technical understanding, and then meshing those two areas together for clients.” He was also named to the IAM Patent 1000 list for eight consecutive years (2014-2021). IAM called Chris a “magician” in monetizing patent portfolios, who uses “exceptional diligence” to “mine portfolios, stress-test use cases, and build litigation strategies.”
