EXPERIENCE
Patrick is a veteran of the legal finance industry, having spent significant time at two different litigation funders. Before joining Certum, Patrick was a Director at Burford Capital, where he was responsible for originating new opportunities with law firms and corporates to deploy capital to the U.S. legal market. Prior to Burford, Patrick was the Chief Investment Officer of Therium Capital Management’s U.S. operations, where he focused on originating, structuring, underwriting, and monitoring single case financing products and portfolio solutions for law firms, corporates, and other litigants.
Patrick has been routinely recognized as a Global Leader in Litigation Finance by Lawdragon; named to the Who’s Who Legal Thought Leaders for Third-Party Funding; and individually recognized by Leaders League.
In private practice, Patrick was an experienced litigator and trial lawyer, first with Proskauer, and then with Hogan Lovells, where he was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star for business litigation. At both firms, he regularly took cases through to trial and arbitral hearings across a broad number of industries.
Patrick received his J.D. from Tulane University Law School, magna cum laude, where he was Managing Editor of the Tulane Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. While in law school, Mr. Dempsey externed for the Honorable Sarah S. Vance of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
